The Wolverine aiming for an October start

In an interview with Toronto Radio Station CHFI, Hugh Jackman talked a bit about The Wolverine. He mentioned production will be ramping up starting this October with a potential release some time in late 2012 into 2013.

The Wolverine is vaguely the sequel to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In that movie they tried to connect and explain all sorts of things from the first three X-Men movies, they unfortunately failed and ended up just making a movie that felt like they were trying to point out things that will happen in the new movies (A creepily cg-unaged Professor X, Cyclops being younger but still sort of douchy).

The Wolverine was originally supposed to be helmed by Darren Aronofsky but he had to pull out due to personal reasons, one of them being the fact that he would have to live in Japan away from his family for far too long.

James Mangold is rumored to be directing the movie now. He directed Walk the Line and Knight and Day, both not bad/okay movies, so let’s hope he can bring something to The Wolverine other than average film making.
