John Carter (of Mars) Trailer!

Disney just released the first trailer for John Carter. The movie is based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel named A Princess of Mars.

In the story John Carter is a jaded Civil War vet who wakes up to find himself on Mars. He is quickly embroiled in the affairs of that planet and through them finds his own humanity again.

Now I know after watching this half of you will be like,

“What?! That’s not Mars. Mars is more red, and doesn’t have a breathable atmosphere! This movie is bunk!”

But think of it this way, Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote the book in 1917, and there was a good chance that we didn’t know what Mars’ atmosphere looked like at all. There could have been people living there, aliens, maybe it was one giant red ocean, who knew?! So if possible, watch the trailer below without trying to put the movie into the present reality of Mars.

Here’s hoping they put the “of Mars” bit back in. It makes it sound way more badass and Civil. It gives you a better idea of what the story is about, John Carter alone could be anyone anywhere doing anything. But John Carter of Mars is totally doing something awesome on Mars.
