This is going to be a bit of non-news for most of you because you probably assumed it already, BUT, J.J. Abrams is going to be directing Star Trek 2!
Now I’m sure at this point you might be thinking, “Wait, when was he NOT going to be directing Star Trek 2? Well for a while we have all been assuming a sequel would be in the works, how could it not with the success and open-endedness of the first film?
For the past year or so J.J. Abrams has been a bit wishy washy on the status of Star Trek 2. He seemed to be waiting around to see if he could once again get the two writers of the first film, Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci. Alex Kurtzman has especially been busy directing Welcome to People over at Dreamworks. Now that that film is wrapping up, Star Trek 2 is officially going into pre-production with plans for filming by this winter!
I personally enjoyed the new Star Trek quite a lot. It might not have been written in the same style as pretty much ALL other Star Trek projects but it was still quite fun and didn’t leave me feeling empty and disconnected from the characters (I’m looking at you, Green Lantern‘s Hector Hammond).
