[Update: Yahoo just posted a shot of Oin and Gloin in similar portrait style, check it out at the bottom]
Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Hobbit continues to bleed cool, as evidenced by a first look photo showing Dori, Ori and Nori. For me, the Dwarves in the book (with one or two exceptions) bled together and were mostly interchangeable. Jackson’s adaptation is looking to change this by giving them all their own unique visual flair. Get excited, friends, get very excited.
Oin and Gloin:
For those of you who don’t know, Gloin is Gimli’s father. You know, the dwarf in the Lord of the Rings?

Eh, GdT would have been fine, and I think he could have handled the epic story, but Jackson is probably the best bet for it. His love of the books will make him want to make it better so that his audience will love it as much as he does. With the Hobbit, he has the best chance on hitting a new audience of readers.
And King Kong was a good movie, or so I would defend any day. It’s a movie from a guy who is having a love affair with it. But, that could take a whole page more so than a comment would allow to go into.
I am very excited for this movie, though excited does not count how much I dream about it, I guess. This still should show to those doubting Jackson behind the project again, that like before, all attention to detail is being paid. Needless to say these dwarves look Bad Ass
Good point. Jackson has, unfortunately, lost a lot of clout with me for his over use of CGI recently. King Kong was pretty spectacular, but hasn’t aged well. And you know, it was like 3 hours long and pretty absurd. So there’s that.
I was excited to see Guillermo del Toro bring his personal aesthetic to the project. Practical effects would have lent this film a very distinct “fairy tale” feeling. Either way, this is shaping up nicely. We’re all excited over here at JQP. Glad to hear that the fan base at large is getting excited as well!
