A little while back SyFy said they would be buying six episodes for a sixth and potential final season for Eureka. Well it looks instead like they will NOT be ordering those final six episodes, and instead will have Eureka wrap up it’s show in next years season.
Here’s what SyFy had to say:
“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.“
Atleast Eureka will have gone out with a good five seasons under it’s belt, but I can’t help but wonder what exactly any of the above means. My guess is the usual, money. SyFy is well known now for dropping its more expensive (and often better) shows for cheaper shows that use all or mostly green-screen sets. They also LOVE their reality television now too.
Some of their reality shows aren’t bad. I have always loved Ghost Hunters and their special effects makeup competition show, Face Off. Other than that it’s mostly junk that would be better off on Science channel or not being a show at all.
I’m sad to see Eureka pass away, but I will mourn it’s death by watching the old episodes over and over and over again.
Rest in peace Eureka.
